The Fifth Tool, Situating Tool

Situating Tool

Situating tool is a tool that we can use to situate it in situation where we want to make it feel real experience or make the implicit situation in very realistic way by using simulation, 3D virtual learning, play station. For example we want to teach students about organ system in our body but its difficult to show it in real therefore, we can use situating in this case like simulation on organ system in human body.

Under situating tool, we learnt four major topics that are Google classroom,  Graph Cal, google Map and Simulation.
Learning about google classroom and how to upload materials and assignments it was really a new knowledge for me. Learning about google classroom gave me whole new learning experiences like how  to invite co-teachers, students and how to upload the assignments and reading materials for students' references guiding with rubrics. I would say that in future using google classroom to teach every lesson  through online then using google classroom would be of much help and easier for teacher as well as students to use that learning platform.

Graph Cal can be used to teach implicit mathematics lesson like using linear equation. Learning how to use graph cal was such a wonderful experience for me as  I could learn the concept of using linear equation and plotting the graph. All the calculations that I have to do was done manually by the computer and I just need to type the linear equations. In future, if i happen to teach on linear equation in Mathematics I can make use of Graph cal to teach  my students on linear equation nevertheless students work can be made easier and they will definitely enjoy learning.

Learning experiences on google map was such an interesting that we could see some places as if we were really present there. Moreover, we could simply use the latitude and longitude provided to calculate the time. This google map can be used in future to teach my students in social studies to calculate the time and I can even take  my students through different  places to visit as if they are really present there. Normally when we talk about historical places I can take my students to that place and make them feel and learn the historical moments very easily by making their learning more realistic.
Simulation is one tool that as a teacher we can use to make the learning on implicit look real and make students learn better.  The simulation that we looked upon was on how to measure a pH scale  in different solution.  The simulation was such a realistic and it made me feel more easier on the topic ph scale and how the system really works. Therefore, in future if I ever happen to come across any topic that cant be taught explicitly , I need to plan thoroughly  and prepare a simulation to learn my students better on the topic.

Therefore,  in a summary,  these four tools were used as situating tool in our classroom  moreover, we can use it in our future classroom to teach any implicit topic to make it feel like real in their learning environment.

Continuation on camtasia video lesson

Camtasia , Video Lesson continue.

Letting us to create a video lesson using camtasia itself was a great  experience for me besides this our tutor create a group in Facebook where we can upload our video and let our friends comment on it. Sir had invited us through Gmail ID that we have linked to our Facebook. Sir had invited us and made the group privacy so that we can feel free to comment and upload our video. Then only I knew that  we can create a group and make it private.

Our tutor  had created the group as "IV PCA EDUTECH 2020", mainly to show us how we can use facebook as co-construction tool  to create knowledge and to learn collaboratively with out classmates. We uploaded our videos and we were made to comment individually on all of our classmates' videos. It was the first time I made such a constructive and positive comments as their videos were extremely good and catchy.

While going through each and everyone of their videos I saw some of the features that I used in my  video lesson were missing in my friends video. Some of the features that they have used were also missing in my video. Thus their constructive feedback helped  me to realized that in future if I ever happen to make  video lesson for my students I will inculcate all those features and make my video look better and presentable in future.

The comments provide by twenty-eight of my friends were motivating and I realized that my video was also not that bad which made me to appreciate my own work. Through this activity in Facebook, I realized that we can do the co-construction of knowledge  together if we use the social media in appropriate or right way. Moreover, I felt that Facebook is also a learning platform  which helps in construction of knowledge and communicating with others. Their feedback helped me learn  and feel the worth of using Facebook as most of the time we just scroll to check the New feeds.

In future, if I ever happen to integrate  ICT in my teaching then I will use Facebook as  many students  are accessible to facebook and familiar to it so  it wont be an issue  them to work together and construct their knowledge. Besides all , I found using this group "IV PCA EDUTECH 2020" to upload the video and commenting was worth of doing and learning. It was such a new and great experience.

Happy readingπŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

Forth Tool

Co-constructive Tool

Constructive tool are those applicants which helps people to construct the knowledge collaboratively. Some examples of these applicants are: Google docs (docs.google.com),  white board, Blogs and wikis, discussion forum on portals (pce.edu.bt).

Sha Phubs Technology Expression ༼འཕྲུΰ½£་ΰ½’ིག་གི་ཚོΰ½’ ...

For more information please go through the link provided, those slides were provided by our mentor:

The importance of Co-constructive tools are as follow:
  1.          Co-edit
  2.          Communicate database, texts & graphics
  3.          Enhance collaborative learning environment:
  4.          high-level cognitive processes – explanation, problem-finding, problem solving
  5.          active & intentional learning
  6.          identifying & developing expertise.
Despite so many applicants, we used Google docs to create  a collaborative lesson plan integrating
ICT in our lesson.  We chose the subject English for grade four and the topic we chose was Action
Verb.  Some advantages of using Google docs are s given below:
  1.           students can work collaboratively online.
  2.           students do collaborative writing, editing, commenting and chat in chatroom.
  3.           files can be saved in google drive or google cloud.
  4.           children can have access to their collaborative work pie anytime, anywhere if they have internet connection.
  5.            google docs is easy for editing, inserting pictures and creating their own graphics.
  6.            teacher can immediately see the document and provide feedback.
  7.           google docs can be used for multiple purposes like creating quiz, blank page for documents and spread sheets for data collection.

My experiences using google docs.

There are lists of co-constructive tool and from there using google docs was the greatest experience
ever had.  Co-constructing lesson plan in group of three members was such a new experience I
had. One of my member created the group in google docs and invited us.  We were given an editor
right. We could edit our documents and make lesson plan collaboratively through active discussion
in comment section. Everybody in my group were excited and were very actively participating in
constructing the ICT integrated lesson plan. Everything we did in google docs was a new learning
for us. The link given below will take you through lesson plan that we have created together:
Through my experience of using the google docs, I can say that if children are given chance to use
google docs and discuss their group work  then children can learn better than we teach it through
lecturing as google docs provides a platform for children to work collaboratively ; moreover, they
can co-construct their knowledge using this applicant.

From so many applicants of  co-construction tool, we have used discussion forum on portal like in
our college website VLE and Google Docs.  Comparing these two, I found google docs more
effective as we can use it for multiple purposes like creating quiz and work collaboratively with our
friends. Moreover, teacher can see who all did the work and comment or give the feedback.

however, despite all the advantages, there are disadvantages as well like having to rely on internet to
open your document. If there is no internet connection then it will be difficult for us to load our
document in google docs. Moreover, if someone has resolved the comments then other cannot reopen
it rather the person who did resolve it has to do it by him or herself. Some times, document easily gets
unorganized due to some mistake and it takes lots of time  make it look like old document. All in all, i
found commenting section more confusing as its not organised in my laptop.  It comes unorganized,
earlier comments come later and later comments come earlier in the sequence.

Overall, using it was great experience and learning for me. That's all about co-construction tool.
See you when I write next time.

Continuation of Third Tool - Constructive Tool.

How I have learnt my Camtasia Studio.

What is camtasia?

Camtasia studio is two products in one, the screen recorder and video maker and editor. It is  capable of creating powerful, interactive, professional video that can be used for a wide range of educational purposes. Camtasia Studio is a software suite, it is published by TechSmith. It is used  for creating video tutorial and presentation directly through the screen-cast or through direct recording. More over, it can be used in making YouTube videos, educational presentation, marketing projects and sales presentations. It is easy to use by everyone  as the program provides users to create, edit, or record videos according to their plan and ideas.

How did I learn Camtasia?

Under this topic, we were given an assignment to make video tutorial lesson. Therefore, I  explored through video tutorial provided  by our tutor in VLE. I even watched some sample of video tutorial lesson  provided by our mentor in VLE: I got help from my friends, who already had the knowledge about how to use camtasia and tried to explore my own as well. I watched relevant video in You Tube to boot my confidence on using camtasia and editing videos. After learning ans exploring, I practiced it in my laptop  for several times before making a video lesson. I applied my knowledge how to do audio recording along with webcam on and presentation in full-screen before getting my final product. Several trials was given then only I could made my video.
This the link that I have referred to learn camtasia software:
Camtasia Studio - Tutorial for Beginners in 13 MINUTES!

What I have learnt from Camtasia?

I learnt that Camtasia is most effective and productive software that we can use in our teaching and learning. Through the use of Camtasia we can make a powerful lesson plan through videos, power-point presentation or  audio records. More over,  I learnt that screen- casting has emerged  as a prominent teaching tool in internet as screen- casting has lots of advantages like teacher can explain step by step, explain lengthy concepts through simple and effective video with narration and teacher can make his or her lesson precise and an concise.

Whereas, students can watch a screen-cast video anytime, anywhere and have complete control over lesson which means students can review any part of lesson they want. They can even download and keep the screen casting for later reference. Therefore, camtasia studio is a powerful tool for students as well.

How did I use the process of Camtasia to get the final product?

First I prepared PowerPoint presentation on "occupation" for class one, subject was English. Then, I opened camtasia, clicked on record button on the left top corner. It gives a dialog box which say full screen, customize screen and record red button. I clicked on full screen and did make my PowerPoint in slideshow and put my webcam on.Then I clicked on record button which alerts us to be ready for recording. I  went on recording until my slides came to an end. Then Clicked on F10 to stop recording. After recording was done, I added music and trimmed the error. Despite to many mistakes I was able to make a video; then to get final product I clicked on "produce and share" option. I gave the file name as "video lesson for occupation" and saved the video on Desktop. Finally  I clicked on finished button after completing my project to 100%.
It was a great time learning and producing a video lesson.

That is all about how I learnt  to make video using Camtasia software.

                                  Happy Reading  😊😊😊

The Third Tool

Constructive Tool

Constructive tool focuses on constructivist approach of teaching  and learning. Constructivism approach mainly talks about  learners being very active and constructing their own knowledge; moreover, constructivist approach emphasizes on  learners being actively engaged, knowledge being personal which exists in their mind and fostering critical thinkers, motivating learners and creating an independent learners. However, lets go into main topic that is Constructive Tool.

What are constructive tool?

Constructive tool are those applicants  which help learner to manipulate information, visualize one's understanding and construct their own knowledge. Some of the examples of constructive tool are as follow:
      1.Concept Map Program

A concept map is a visual organization  and representation of knowledge. Concept Map is a great way to build upon previous knowledge  by connecting new information back to it.

It helps users to brainstorm and visualize the relationships between ideas, concepts , or their understanding about the topic.

Moreover, it encourages students to think creatively about the topic.

 2. Desktop Publishing Program

Desktop Publishing (DTP) is the creation of documents using page layout software on desktop.
This program helps users to organize and present their ideas in an attractive format.
Some the popular  Desktop Publisher software are Adobe, Microsoft and Corel.

3.Word, Spread sheet and PowerPoint

These help organize, record, manipulate and present their ideas in attractive in the form of memos, reports, letters, presentations, record routine information.

Apart from  these tools, there are some others tool given as examples like  Electronic bulletin boards
/ Moodle, MS-Publisher, multimedia authoring tool, social networking sites (Blog/facebook / twitter) and simulation. For further notes please visit this link :https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BQ0AJcaXsQVo8PG-5KHhZRsi8mrpQCdN/view?usp=sharing
Based on this tool, we were given an activity to create a simulation which was to advocate my village as a tourist agent to attract the tourists. However, this task was bit difficult without any sample to look upon but it was of a great experience of learning how to create one of our own simulation. After tutor's guidance it was much of help and I would say I was able to create much better simulation than before.
Other than all the tools mentioned above, I found simulation more appropriate while integrating  in classroom because simulation can be integrated to teach students a narration of stories, poem or anything on any topic just like a video tutorial. For further explanation on what is simulation and how  I have created please go through this link:
Constructive tool can be integrated in various way in teaching and learning.  Following are the some of methods to integrate constructive tool:
  1. Letting students use  basic technology tools to create a brain storm or concept map for their project work or any other subject matter.
  2. Teacher can create something   new way to deliver  the lesson using constructive tool like powerpoint, word or spread sheet.
  3.  Allowing students to publish a brocher or  flyer of their own.
  4. Let them use spread sheet  and word to write  and publish it on desktop.
  5. Teacher can use it for assessing children's learning  by giving comment and feedback.
  6. Students can use it in getting information fro teacher and teacher can use it for passing lesson to students through video lessons.
Therefore, I conclude that constructive tool is as effective as any other tool in teaching and learning. Moreover, constructive tool provides student the greater platform to construct their own knowledge and be an active learner.

That's all about constructive tool.  Happy Reading πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

The Second Tool.

Communication Tool

The second tool of Information Communication Technology as integration in teaching and learning is a communication tool. There was a presentation presented by the module tutor. From his presentation, I learnt the definition of communication tool, its two types, its definition with examples; their difference, why? And how to use communication tools in learning and teaching. Given below is the presentation link done by the module tutor:

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/169lfYMDZvw19K0Y1GvkBudWElae3075kS8RhNuVhr5A/edit#slide=id.p3

Now, let’s go through what I have learnt from this session. I learnt that communication tool is applications that we can use to communicate to our family or to other people. Some of the examples given by our tutor are Gmail, Skype, Video conferencing, chat, Blog etc.

The two types of Communication tools are Synchronous and Asynchronous. Synchronous communication happens when both the sender and receiver are active at the same time. Like talking on telephone is the best example. Some more  examples of synchronous communication tools are video conferencing, Chat, Instant Messaging etc.

Asynchronous communication happens when the sending and receiving occur  at different times. Like emailing and answering after few hours as receiver was not online. Some more examples of asynchronous  communication tools are Email, Web- based training, Pod casting, Computer- based Training and DVD.

From these two types of communication tool,  I realized we used most the time synchronous but as side by side we have also used asynchronous communication tool. But we have used video conferencing  only this year due to Covid-19 pandemic. However,  I found  using online classes through live video conference was such an amazing experience for me where teacher can be seen at the same moment and teaching us on the topic just like we are inside classroom face to face. Besides, we can get immediate  feedback as well.

There are lots of a difference between these two type of communicative tool and here are some of their differences:

Synchronous
During synchronous, all students as well as facilitators need to be present. It is real time interaction with tutor and activities are done during class period itself where as  Asynchronous , students can attend whenever they want within the course time frame, facilitators need not have to be online at a given time, there is no real time interaction with tutors and tutors or students need to find time to communicate with each other for activities.

Why to use the communication tool in teaching and learning?
Communication tool must be used in teaching and learning so that every individual  needs are fulfilled, more over teacher will be able to cater to the children's interest in learning as well as in teaching. Teacher can make class more lively and fun through different communication tools.

This tool has a greater advantage in communicating and socializing with teachers as well as students in learning as well in teaching. Besides advantages, there are numerous disadvantages of Synchronous and Asynchronous. Synchronous needs commitment for collaborators but if the technologies fail then the collaboration session is impossible. Whereas, using Asynchronous doesn’t help learners to get immediate feedback so it becomes difficult to keep track of the learner’s learning.  Therefore, I agree that using synchronous can be much advantage than Asynchronous.
That’s all about this second tool ‘’communication tool.’’ See you all when I come up with the third tool.
Above all the varieties of  communication tools, we learnt how to create  a Blog. We were given an activity to create a Blog related to Information Communication Technology and it is a kind of reflective or learning profile about Information Communication Technology as integration in learning and teaching.  It was of great learning experience for me.

Happy Reading!😊😊😊

The first tool

Informative Tool

Information Communication Technology  as an Informative tool was the first tool we learnt for almost a week(23 March-27 March). Our module tutor presented his slides on Information Communication Technology as an Informative tool. Presentation made by my tutor is given below:

From his presentation, I learnt that informative tool can provide vast amount of information in various forms, such as text, graphics, sound and video; and even multimedia encyclopedias which are available in the Internet. Moreover,  I learnt why should we used Information Communication Technology as Informative tool. As presented in my tutor's presentation we need to use Information Communication Technology  as informative tool to get global information resources like latest news, weather forecasts, educational information, sports schedules etc.  Through his presentation  I realized that we have  been using ICT as informative tool through our life. We had used ICT as informative tool in getting educational information for writing our assignments. I also learnt that we can use ICT as informative tool because it has many advantages  like  getting relevant ideas, analyzing information, we can even develop information search skills and we can even evaluate resources in the internet. We use Information Communication Technology to gather information be it for educational purposes or personal.

When it comes to how do we used information communication technology as an informative tool, there are  so many ways in which we inculcate ICT as informative tool like we use ICT as source of information/ reference/ content for teachers or for ourselves, we use it for synthesizing, analyzing and manipulating our learning and opinions with evidence  and we construct our knowledge and meaning through referring information given in internet. In his presentation, there are some reference provided which indicates that he has used ICT as an informative tool for his presentation. Some of the reference from sir's presentation:

These are not only the things I learnt from this lesson but I also learnt a lot more like  using appropriate search engines to find for information, we even created a presentation on the title '' Is Hitler a gay?''  using graphics, sound, text and movies. Here, in my presentation, I took my stand saying ''Hitler is a gay'' with the evidence that I could find through my reading material in online. Through this exercise, I could learn how to use relevant source for reference  and making our work authentic. Here is the presentation I prepared using ICT as an Informative tool:<

In near future, when I go to schools as teacher I can always used ICT as informative tool to find appropriate resources to make my work authentic and more over I can allow my students to search information through internet for their better writing or gaining more knowledge from internet.

See you all again when I write about second ICT tool, that is communicative tool.πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚
